The Ericsson/Swisscom joint exercise indicates that 5G is ready and up to the task of solving difficult indoor coverage challenges. Ericsson’s main 5G systems rivals, Nokia and Huawei, will need to prioritize the indoor capabilities of their solutions to prevent Ericsson from gaining an upper hand through indoor coverage differentiators. Overall the increased competition here is good news for the 5G ecosystem and users.

Nokia is ready to further expand its presence and influence in worldwide 5G networks regardless of how the U.S.-China trade standoff is resolved. This includes factoring in potential price pressures from major 5G rival Ericsson and its signaled intention to take on greater margin pressures in order to win more 5G market share. Why? The overall 5G market is already lifting off ahead of previous 2019/H2 2019 expectations. As operators and their ecosystem partners gain valuable deployment experience, delivering 5G experiences to customers will become more automatic, expanding and diversifying 5G use cases and revenues.

The Capital One breach is a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day for the brand, and just another day of exposure and personal risk for consumers. There’s a reason that every major tech brand is focused on cybersecurity: Dell, IBM, Cisco, SAP, and others understand fully that business can’t be business as usual if customers are vulnerable to hacks. Now we just need to move cybersecurity up the food chain so that it’s a top concern from senior management and the boardroom on down—and fund it.
